Drawing presented to celebrate Clegg Construction’s successful renovation of Maltby Grammar School

16 June 2025

Maltby Learning Trust has presented a drawing of the completed renovation of Maltby Grammar School to Clegg Construction as a thank you for the company’s services.

The Artist

The print was drawn by artist Emma Black, governance administrator officer at Maltby Learning Trust, who now works in the renovated centre.

It was presented at the official opening of the centre in South Yorkshire, which took place in April.

Emma, 33, who has been drawing since she was a child and is self-taught, said she had been very happy to undertake the commission after being asked by Maltby Learning Trust CEO David Sutton.

“I don’t usually draw buildings. I normally do animals or portraits, but I was happy to accept,” explained Emma, who has worked for the Maltby Learning Trust since March 2020.

It took her around 20 to 30 hours to complete the drawing, and A3 copies were handed to Clegg Construction, project manager Cube Construction Consultants, and architect Self Architects, who were all key members of the renovation team, with a number of limited edition A5 copies also available.

The Project

Clegg Construction has completed the £5.9 million transformation of the historic Maltby Grammar School near Rotherham into a vibrant community resource and education centre. The major renovation scheme was completed last year, breathing new life into the landmark building.

An official opening ceremony was held on 23rd April 2025, with the honours carried out by Lord and Lady Scarbrough, who have longstanding connections with the trust and the communities it serves, and have been enthusiastic supporters of the project throughout its development.

The print presented to Clegg Construction now hangs in the foyer of the company’s headquarters in Nottingham.

“The drawing of Maltby Grammar School is excellent and we’d like to thank Emma and Maltby Learning Trust for their kind gesture.

“Being appointed to renovate Maltby Grammar School was an honour for the team at Clegg Construction. We were very pleased to be invited to the official opening and to see how the building is now being used by the community, a year after we completed the project.”
