Contractor Clegg Construction has completed the multi-million pound refurbishment of the newly opened Hotel Indigo Leeds, and IHG Hotel.
The design and build project at the hotel on the corner of Lower Briggate and Swinegate included refurbishment of bedrooms and the creation of new rooms to increase the number of guest bedrooms to 107.
It also involved modernising function rooms and the creation of The Banksia bar and restaurant on the ground floor.
Clegg Construction MD Michael Sims said: “The hotel is a landmark building in the centre of Leeds and we are very pleased to have delivered a programme of refurbishment which paves the way for the opening of an iconic new chapter.
“Clegg Construction has worked on a number of high profile projects in Leeds recently and the completion of the Hotel Indigo Leeds follows the recent handing over of nearby Spinners Yard, an 11-storey build-to-rent development.
“It gives us immense pride to deliver projects that make a real difference to communities, and we hope that the refurbished hotel will be popular with tourists and professionals who are in the city for business.”
Other members of the development team included project manager Edmond Shipway, architect Franklin Ellis and engineer Rodgers Leask.
Now operating under IHG’s Hotel Indigo brand, the hotel is owned by Belfont Hotels, a venture headed by the Thakerar family, and managed by Countrywide hotels.
Keval Thakerar, Director of Belfont Hotels said “We are incredibly proud to unveil the transformed Hotel Indigo Leeds, a stunning blend of heritage and modern hospitality in the heart of the city. Clegg Construction has delivered a high-quality refurbishment that brings new energy and character to this landmark building. We’re confident the hotel, with its vibrant new bar and restaurant, The Banksia, and refreshed guest experience, will be a fantastic destination for both business and leisure travellers. It marks an exciting new chapter for Leeds and for Belfont Hotels.”
